Week 29 Highlights!

What a wonderful week!

In guided reading this week, we focused on informational text involving the sun and the moon.  After reading and listening to a variety of non-fiction books, we composed a list of sun and moon facts.  Using our facts, we created Venn diagrams comparing and contrasting the sun and moon.  Take a peek at our kiddos hard at work compiling sun and moon facts.  Please ask your child to share with you three facts about the sun and moon and tell you how they are similar.

We added one new word to the word wall this week.  Our new word wall word is has.  Please continue to practice identifying, reading, and writing our word wall words and sight word lists at home.

Take a peek at our kiddos hard at work during our Daily Five reading and writing stations.  Please ask your child to share with you what their favorite Daily Five station was this week.

During our classroom computer lab, we introduced our new keyboarding program, Keyboarding Without Tears.  Using our iPads, we are learning how to identify, sort, and manipulate keys to help us type on a keyboard.  Take a peek at our kiddos exploring our new app.

In whole group math, we introduced the balance scale.  Using our new math talk vocabulary (estimate, heavier, and lighter), we compared the weight of different classroom objects.  During math tubs, we reviewed number sense, 2D and 3D shapes, and addition and subtraction. Take a peek at our kindergartners hard at work during partner math tubs.

For Cooking Friday, we explored the phases of the moon using Oreos.  Take a peek at our kindergartners making full, crescent, quarter, gibbous, and new moons using Oreo cookies.  What a tasty way to learn!

Thank you to all our parent and grandparent volunteers this week.
