Halloween and Week 10 Highlights!

What a fun and busy week!  We began our week with our Halloween parade and party. Take a peek at our kindergartners participating in the Irving School parade and enjoying our class party!

Our story of the week was Duck for President by Doreen Cronin.  We reviewed identifying characters, setting, and details.  We discussed the role of the president, the candidates, and will even have an Irving School mock election next week!

We added one new word to the word wall this week.  Our new word wall word is to.  Please practice reading, writing, and identifying our kindergarten word wall words with your child at home.

We continue to explore reading and writing independently during our Daily Five reading stations.   Take a peek at our kiddos reading to self, working on writing, and completing word work activities.

We completed our first unit of our Writer's Workshop!  We published our favorite true story book by adding a cover page.  We also began our second unit of Writer's Workshop Writing for Readers. We learned what makes writing easy to read, how to write true stories that readers really want to read, and how to draw stories for readers.

In whole group math this week, we introduced counting objects up to 8 in a variety of configurations.  We practiced numeral writing to eight.   During math tubs, we reviewed number writing, addition using manipulatives, subitizing, counting on the ten frame, and dice addition.  Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians hard at work!

In science, we went on a leaf walk!  We collected, sorted, and classified the leaves surrounding Irving School.  Take a peek at our kindergarten scientists exploring different leaves.

We ended our exciting week with a visit from our book buddies.  Look at the kindergartners and 5th graders reading together!
