Week 4 Highlights!

What a wonderful week!

During our Shared Reading, we focused on the nursery rhyme, Twinkle, Twinkle, Litter Star. We used this poem to continue to explore letters, sounds, rhyming words and print concepts.  We also introduced our first two sight words this week.  Our new words are I and a.  Please practice identifying, reading, and writing our sight words with your child at home.

In Reader's Workshop, we learned that readers reread to rethink, that rereading helps raders learn from words in books, and that readers sound like teachers when they read.  Take a peek at our kindergarten readers practicing partner and private reading.

Our Read Aloud of the week was Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell. Our comprehension focus was identifying character, setting, and main event.  We also retold our story by sorting pictures that were and were not in our read aloud.  Please ask your child to share with you three details from our story.

During Daily Five word work stations this week, we wrote our names with pipe cleaners, composed name and alphabet puzzles, used play-dough to trace upper and lowercase letters, and used wood pieces to make uppercase letters.  Please ask your child what was their favorite word work station this week.

This week during Writer's Workshop, we learned how to turn our writing into books!  We also introduced writing partners!  We practiced sharing a love and a learn when reading and listening to peer writing.  Take a peek at our kindergarten writers hard at work!

In Whole Group Math, we introduced 2D shapes.  We also reviewed counting to tell how many and writing numerals to 5.  We began our second round of Math Tubs.  During our second rotation, we will practice one-to-one correspondence, writing numerals, shape identification, subitizing, making shapes, and playing Bump.  Please ask your child what was their favorite math tub this week. Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians!

We ended our week with Science tubs.  Take a peek at our kindergarten builders!
