Our story of the week was The Recess Queen. The reading comprehension skills we focused on this week were retelling the story, identifying characters, and inferring. The kiddos LOVED this book so much that we became actors and actresses and performed the book to our classmates. Take a peek at our kindergartners acting as Mean Jean at the beginning and end of the story.
In reading workshop this week, we continue to build reading stamina and practice working together in a group during stations. Take a peek at our kindergartners hard at work during reading stations and building reading stamina at library.
In writer's workshop, we continue to practice building our writing stamina. The kiddos have built their writing muscles up to writing for twelve minutes! During workshop, we reviewed how to write a story (think, draw, write) and discussed what we can write about (family, pets, places, activities, and anything from your heart!). Take a peek at our kindergarten writers.
In math, we continue to focus on sorting by color, size, and shape. We are also practicing writing numbers, identifying shapes, creating patterns, and counting on the tens frame during calendar book. Our math stations this week include shape sort, roll and write, pattern block creations, and count and match. Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians.
We ended our busy week with Cooking Friday and Book Buddies! The kiddos loved sharing their favorite fruits, learning about our new kindergarten friends, and eating a healthy snack. Mr. Sakellaris' class joined us this afternoon for our first Book Buddies of the year. Please ask your child about their fifth grade buddy. We can't wait to read and learn together!
