What a busy short week!
Our story of the week was Otis by Loren Long. Our comprehension focus was identifying the
author and illustrator and their roles, naming the main characters and setting,
and retelling major events. Please ask
your child to retell the story of Otis to you at home.
We introduced Daily Five during reading stations! Take a
peek at our kiddos reading to self, working on writing, listening to our story
of the week on the iPad, and completing word work. Please ask your child to tell you their
favorite Daily Five station this week.
We began our second unit of our writer’s workshop, writing
personal narratives. The kiddos are beginning to create the beginning pages of
our first narrative book. Take a peek at
our writers hard at work.
In math, we are beginning to decompose numbers five, six,
and seven. Using manipulatives we created
different ways to make numbers. We
introduced two new math stations this week, Find Sums on the iPad and dice
addition. We also reviewed number
writing, number puzzles, and shape identification. Take a peek at our kindergartners during math
stations.
In science this week, we created an apple facts anchor
chart, labeled the parts of an apple, and made delicious applesauce for Cooking
Friday. Please ask your child to share
with you their favorite science activity this week.
We had a blast at the Irving School Academic Fair and Egg Drop! Congratulations to our kindergarten scientists.
We took our first trip to the computer lab this week. With the guidance of Mr. Degman our kindergartners navigated their way around the computer and learned how to sign into Lexia Core 5. Take a peek at our tech savvy kindergartners!
