Week Six Highlights!

What a wonderful short week! I hope you all are enjoying your long weekend!

We began our week with our first Mystery Reader, Mr. Fahey.  The kiddos loved guessing our reader and listening to The Lorax.  We cannot wait to have more family members join us for Mystery Reader Monday!

Our story of the week was Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems.  We discussed Mo Willem's role as both the author and illustrator and identified how each role drives the story.  We created our own blueprints identifying the characters, setting, and major events in Knuffle Bunny.  Please have your child retell the story to you using their blueprint!

We added the word, like, to the word wall this week.  Please practice reading, writing, and identifying our new word wall word with your child at home.

We completed our first reader's workshop unit this week! We celebrated building our reading stamina to ten minutes with a reading celebration with our book buddies.  We can't wait to show you our favorite books during parent-teacher conferences!  In reading stations this week, we continue to review identifying letters and sounds and build reading stamina.  Please ask your child to share with you their favorite reading station.

In writer's worksop, we published our writing! We began our week writing a list to organize our thoughts, turned our list into a detailed story, and finished our writing with labels and a sentence.  Please continue to practice thinking, drawing, and writing stories with your child at home.

We completed our first set of letters in our handwriting curriculum, our frog jump capitals.  The frog jump capital letters are F, E, D, P, B, R, M, and N.  Please ask your child to show you how to make our frog jump letters at home.

In math, we introduced positional words such as above, below, next to, beside, in front of, and behind.  Please review positional words with your child at home.  With our math partners we played match it building pairs and sets.  During math stations this week, students practiced number writing, assembled shape puzzles, and reviewed shape identification and one-to-one correspondence.  Please ask your child to share with you their favorite math station.

Please remember that next week is also a short week.  Please send your child with gym shoes and their library books on Friday.
