Happy New Year! Take a peek at a few photos from our Winter Sing. Thank you to all the families who attended our concert and classroom party. What a great way to end 2015!
2016 is off to a great start! This week was all about re-establishing routines and procedures. The kiddos jumped right back into the swing of things and our first week back after winter break was a good one.
Our story of the week, was Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester. Our comprehension focus this week was retelling the story detailing the beginning, middle, and end. We also reviewed describing the relationship between the illustrations and the story in which they appear. We completed blueprints RL.K.2 and RL.K.7. Please ask your child to use their retelling pictures to explain the beginning, middle, and end of our story. Also, please take a peek in your child's folder where you will find our RL.K.7 blueprint. Stop by our classroom bulletin board next week to see our Tacky craft and writing. Take a peek at our kiddos hard at work completing blueprints and assembling a penguin cooking Friday snack.
We added two new words to our word wall this week. Our new word wall words are for and you. Please continue to practice our sight word lists with your child at home.
We added partner reading to our Daily Five reading and writing stations. Take a peek at our kindergartners hard at work during Daily Five.
In writing, we reviewed writing personal narratives and writing goals. Please continue to practice your child's writing goal at home.
During whole group math, we introduced January calendar books and reviewed number bonds. In our January calendar books we are practicing number patterns, counting backwards, and teen numbers. During math stations this week we reviewed dice addition, ten frame counting, teen numbers, tally marks, and number sequences. Take a peek at our kiddos hard at work during math stations.
We began our seasons and weather science unit this week. We watched a BrainPop Jr video about the four seasons, read informational text about the seasons, and used shared writing to describe what we know about the seasons. Next week we will dive deeper into Winter and snow. Over the next few weeks we will begin our Delta Science investigating water unit. We can't wait to begin experimenting with water!
Thank you to our family volunteers this week, Mr. Kantz and Ms. Trudell. Take a peek at our kiddos with our classroom helpers.
