What a fun week!
This week was all about Dr. Seuss. We read many of his classics to celebrate Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss's birthday. To incorporate our Common Core reading standards, we reviewed character, setting, and main events. We also discussed problem and solution. Finally, we compared The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back using a venn diagram. This activity helps us prepare for our third trimester reading comprehension standards. Take a peek at our kiddos reading Dr. Seuss books together!
We added one new word to the word wall this week. Our new word wall word is said. Please continue to practice word wall words with your child at home.
We continue to build writing stamina during writer's workshop. We practiced personal narratives, how to, and opinion writing this week. Next week, we will begin our small moment personal narratives unit. Please help your child build their writing stamina at home by keeping a daily journal.
We continue to build early reading and writing skills during Daily Five literacy stations. This week we practiced sight word identification, decoding leveled readers, phonemic awareness, blending and reading CVC words, stamina reading, labeling and writing lists, and listening to Dr. Seuss books during Daily Five. Please ask your child what their favorite Daily Five learning center this week.
In whole group math, we introduced time to the hour and subtraction on the number line. During math stations, we continue to practice dice addition, skip counting to 100, addition equations, building shapes, and making ten. Take a peek at our kiddos hard at work during whole group math and math stations.
We ended the week with the Opera for the Young performance of "The Magic Flute". Please ask your child to share with you highlights from this experience.
A very big thank you to our parent and grandparent volunteers this week. Take a peek at our Mystery Reader, Mrs. Draper reading a silly story to our kiddos.
