Week 33 Highlights!!

What a wonderful week!

Our stories of the week were The Curious Garden by Peter Brown and My Garden by Kevin Henkes.  We discussed character, setting, problem, solution, and main events.  Using our two stories we created Venn diagrams to compare and contrast the experiences of the main characters.  We also introduced our RL.K.4, our word choice blueprint.  We discussed how illustrations or text can help us understand unknown words.

We added one new word to the word wall this week.  Our new word wall word is where.  Please continue to identify, read, and write our kindergarten word wall words and sight word lists with your child at home.

In writer's workshop, we continue to add stories to our small moment personal narrative folders.  We are focusing on editing our writing.  Please remind your child to start with a capital letter, use finger spaces, end with punctuation, and use lowercase letters when writing at home.

In whole group math, we began our review of our kindergarten math concepts.  We continue to develop fluency with our subitizing cards.  During math tubs this week, we reviewed number sequencing, 3D shapes, addition to five and ten, comparing numbers, and counting by tens.  Take a peek at our kindergartners hard at work during math stations.

We began our final science unit, From Seed to Plant, this week.  We used our prior knowledge to create a list of plant facts, read nonfiction text about seeds and how they grow, and ended the week by planting our own seeds.  We can't wait to see our classroom plants grow!  Take a peek at our kindergarten gardeners!

This week we began our Traveling Poets program during library.  Take a peek at our kindergarten poets getting ready to visit classrooms.

Take a peek at our kindergartners enjoying the ABC Countdown Game Day.

Thank you to all our parent and grandparent volunteers this week.
