Our story of the week was Peter's Chair by Ezra Jack Keats. Our comprehension focus was naming the main character, setting, and important events. We also sequenced events using our retell cards. Please ask your child to share with you a detail from the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Take a peek at our kiddos reading to self, working on writing, and completing word work. We even began guided reading groups this week! Please ask your child to tell you their favorite Daily Five station this week.
We completed the second bend of launching our writer's workshop. We are busy creating many teaching books. Take a peek at our kindergartners sharing the beginning, middle, and end of their teaching book with our peanut butter and jelly partner. We celebrated our the end of our teaching book bend by sharing our writing with our 5th grade book buddies. Our 5th grade buddies were so impressed by our kindergarten writers!
In math, we are beginning to decompose numbers three, four, and five. Using manipulatives we created different ways to make numbers. We practiced correctly writing numbers from zero to five. Where do we start our numbers, at the top! During our fluency practice, we played hide and see, beep number, and see, count, and write numbers.

We began our first FOSS science unit this week, Trees and Weather. We visited our schoolyard tree, illustrated and labeled our tree in our science notebook, and discussed the parts of a tree. Take a peek at our kindergarten scientists observing our schoolyard tree!
We had an author visit from Lori Degman this week. She shared her new book, Norbert's Big Dream, and we read along to Cock-A-Doodle Oops.
Finally, we had our first kindergarten birthday this week! Take a peek at our kindergartners listening to our friend share her favorite story.
