We've settled into fall this week in Room 116! We even welcomed a bit of winter today!
Declan's dad, Nate Derhammer, came to visit as our Mystery Reader on Monday! He had us all laughing with What Was I Afraid Of? by Dr. Seuss. Thank you for joining us!
Daily Five: November Writing, Beginning Sound Sorting, Fall Sight Word story, Lexia, Read to Self, and sight word spinners.
Reader's Workshop - Super Powers for Super Readers! We introduced "super pointing power," "super reread power" and "super picture power" as reading strategies. As a class, we worked on these super powers while reading, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. We book shopped for new "just right books" and interests books. We finished off the week practicing retelling the main events of Where the Wild Things Are and identifying characters and setting.
During Math Tubs this week, we were lucky enough to have TWO visitors! Ava's mom on Tuesday and Sydney's mom on Thursday! We also got brand new math tubs on Thursday which is quite exciting!
During our math lessons, we reviewed 2D and 3D shapes in the beginning of the week. Ask your kindergartner to sing you the 3D shapes they know! At the end of the week, we began our new unit about length and measurement.
Our Fifth Grade Book Buddies came to visit us on Friday afternoon to play a "Favorites" board game. Take a look at the buddies enjoying their time together!
