Week 17 Highlights

We survived another week in December!

On Monday, we had visitors for Mystery Reader Monday - Natalie & Caryss Draper! We listened to two books - How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Giving Tree. Two favorites!

Shared Reading: This week, Gingerbread Boy (tune: Ta Ra Ra Boom De Yay) was our poem. We did word studies of digraphs (/th/) in the beginning and endings of words, rhyming words, s-blends (/sm/, /sp/, and /st/) and syllables.

Readers Workshop: We continued Gingerbread theme and read both Gingerbread Girl and Gingerbread Baby. We are loving it so much, half the class has checked out Gingerbread books at Library! We compared and contrasted the different Gingerbread tales we've read. Ask your child which story is their favorite!

Daily 5: We continued our hands-on application of writing, reading, and phonics this week. We practiced Read and Reveal Sight Words, Read and Reveal CVC words, December writing, book bin reading and Lexia.

Writer's Workshop: Take a look at our Kindergarten authors sharing with the class their hard work! You will find many  Unit 2 treasures in the kindergartner's blue folder today. We have come a long way since August!!

Math: We had some fun this week extending our work with one more/less and subitizing. We played Kahoot! to practice our fluency and accuracy with numbers/counting. Take a peek at this video that captures the teamwork and excitement Kahoot brings to our classroom! We played "Roll a Gingerbread" and Mr. Packer visited us to read stories about big number concepts - 100, 1000, groups of 10s. We also got "Bonus Tubs" today that will carry into next week. They are sensory, STEM and team building games - bigger groups and lots of fun!

We had even MORE fun with Kahoot! with our Book Buddies Friday afternoon. The 5th graders brought their iPads and we got to showcase some of our Kindergarten skills, as well as some fun trivia games. Be sure to ask your child about Kahoot!

We have a big week of fun ahead.... Most notably, WEDNESDAY, 12/20 - 8:15am & 9:45am Winter Sing performance. 10am - Winter Celebration in our classroom. Please do not feel obligated to stay the duration of the party. It's a busy time of year!

Looking forward to it! Enjoy the weekend!
Ms. Corrigan
