What a sweet week!
Here's a peek at our week:
Our Shared Reading this week was Stung! We sorted by ending sounds and blends. We added two new words to the the word wall. Our new word wall words are down and have. Please practice sight words with your child at home.
We continue to explore independent early literacy skills during our Daily 5 word work stations. This week we introduced new word sorts. We cut, colored, and raced to sort beginning sounds, short vowels, blends, or long vowels. We practiced reading and writing words that begin with blends and digraphs. We also reviewed sight words by sorting, coloring, reading, and spinning a word wall word. We worked on writing labels and stories, developed phonemic awareness skills using Lexia, and read to ourselves in our book boxes. Please ask your child to share with you their favorite Daily Five station this week.
In Reader's Workshop, we reviewed how to be an avid nonfiction reader. We compared and contrasted nonfiction texts. Please ask your child to share how honey bees and dragonflies are similar and different. Take a peek at our avid readers!
Our Read Aloud this week was Hey Little Ant by Phillip and Hannah Hoose. Our comprehension focus was comparing characters. We determined that the Kid and Ant had more similarities than differences.
In Writer's Workshop, we continue to write small moment narratives. This week we learned that writers add their five senses into their stories. We also practiced being smartie spellers (say it like a turtle, stretch it like a snake, and write the sounds we hear).
During Math Tubs, we reviewed one-to-one correspondence, addition to 10, subtraction, subitizing, BUMP, and number words. In whole group Math, we continue to explore teen numbers. We practiced writing number bonds using our Say 10 counting and ten frame cards. We also practiced core fluency sprints. Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians!
In Science, we completed our exploration our April STEM tubs. This month we created structures using plastic eggs, playdough, peeps, jellybeans, and water bottles. We watched as our caterpillars transformed into butterflies. We discussed the lifecycle of butterflies and set them free! We also added new animals to our classroom collection, SNAILS!
On Thursday, Mrs. Brown joined us for Active April. This week, we worked on strengthening and stretching our muscles.

We ended the week with a visit from our Book Buddies. We continued working on our shared research projects all about animals. We can't wait to teach our classmates all about our favorite animals.
On Friday, we shared our favorite children's books with a partner to celebrate the letter B for our ABC Countdown. Take a peek at our readers!
