What a fun final full week of kindergarten!
Here's a peek at our week:
We began our week with our final Mystery Reader. Thank you Mrs. Boucher for reading Oh, The Places You'll Go to our kindergartners.
Our Shared Reading this week was Summer Vacation to the tune, "This Old Man". We sorted by vowel sounds. We added one new word to the word wall. Our new word wall word is here. Please practice sight words with your child at home.
We continue to explore independent early literacy skills during our Daily 5 word work stations. This week we introduced our final word sorts. We cut, colored, and raced to sort beginning sounds, short vowels, blends, or long vowels. We practiced reading and writing words that begin with blends and digraphs. We also reviewed sight words by sorting, coloring, reading, and spinning a word wall word. We worked on writing labels and stories, developed phonemic awareness skills using Lexia, and read to ourselves in our book boxes. Please ask your child to share with you their favorite Daily Five station this week.
In Reader's Workshop, we reviewed stamina reading and reading playdates. We did our final book shopping of the school year. We have truly become avid readers!
In Writer's Workshop, we completed our convince me writing unit. Similar to our how-to persuasive writing, we are telling our reader what we want, why we want it, and ending with the word "please". This week we sent home our red writing folders. Please make sure to take a peek at the wonderful progress your child has made in writing this school year.
During Math Tubs, we reviewed one-to-one correspondence, counting on, addition to 10, subtraction, subitizing, BUMP, and teen numbers. In whole group Math, we continue to explore counting Say Ten numbers. This week's focus was counting in a variety of configurations. We also practiced core fluency sprints. Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians!
In Science, we completed the exploration of our snail tubs. This week we observed and read about snails, labelled the parts of the snail, sorted and classified shells, and determined what snails do and do not eat.
