We began our week with a Mystery Reader! Thank you Lorraine for sharing your favorite book and reading one of our Elephant and Piggie stories.
We continued our Winter Holidays and Traditions theme in our reading and writing this week. Our story of the week was The Gingerbread Boy by Paul Galdone. During our whole group reading, the kiddos identified story elements, sequenced key details, and compared the characters of The Gingerbread Boy to the characters in The Gingerbread Girl.
We added one new word wall word to the word wall this week. Our new word wall word is are. Please continue to practice identifying, reading, and writing our kindergarten word wall words with your child at home.
In Writer's Workshop, we continued the publishing bend of our narrative writing unit. We learned that we are all writing teachers and that writers work with their hot dog partners to answer readers' questions. Take a peek at our kindergartner writers hard at work!
During Daily Five reading and writing stations, we continue to develop our independent working skills through reading to self, listening to reading, working on writing, and completing word work activities. Please ask your child what their favorite Daily Five station was this week! Take a peek at our kindergartners hard at work!
During Reader's Workshop, we continue to develop powerful partnerships. We are building our reading stamina while learning strategies of how to share what we read. We learned how to take turns reading different books, stay busy the whole time, and how to share telling your favorite part.
In whole group math, we began Module 3 in our Eureka Math curriculum. This week we introduced math vocabulary: longer than, taller than, and short than. We compared objects in our room by length. We also measured gingerbread men using marshmallows! Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians comparing lengths in the classroom. During math tubs, we reviewed numeral writing, addition, number sequence, shape identification, and played Bump!
