Week 23 Highlights!

What a sweet and short week!

We began our busy week with a Mystery Reader.  Take a peek at Mrs. Tsagaris sharing Library Lion and an Elephant and Piggie favorite.

We continued the fun by celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday morning!  Take a peek at our kindergartners completing fun activities and projects during our classroom party.  Thank you so much to our parent volunteers, especially our Room Moms, who made our celebration a success.

Our story of the week this week was Knuffle Bunny by our favorite author, Mo Willems.  We discussed the story elements, shared key details by sequencing pictures, and used illustrations to understand text.  Please ask your child to retell the story of Trixie and Knuffle Bunny.

We added one new word wall word to the word wall this week.  Our new word wall word is what.  Please continue to practice our word wall words and sight word lists with your child at home.

In writer's workshop, we continue to write how-to books, step by step.  This week we reviewed the second bend of our third writing unit.  Bend two is all about using mentor texts for inspiration.  We created goals to make our writing just like mentor how-to writers.  We can't wait to share with you our teaching books soon!

We continue to explore number bonds, addition, and subtraction in the fourth module of our math curriculum.  This week we focused on making five.  We introduced new math tubs to partner math!  This week we explored nonstandard measurement, dice addition, tens frames to twenty, addition to five and ten, I-Spy, number sequences, and subitize tree.  Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians hard at work!

On Wednesday, we participated in an African American Read In.  We joined Mrs. Kontos' class to help make literacy an important part of Black History Month.  Together we read stories written and illustrated by African American authors and illustrators.  Take a peek at our readers!
