The ABC Countdown is in full swing! Take a peek at our kindergartners celebrating dance day, game day, and a classroom birthday!
During our Shared Reading, we focused on the poem, Stung, to explore letters, sounds, rhyming words, and print concepts. We introduced one kindergarten snap words this week. The new word we can read in a snap is all. Please practice identifying, reading, and writing our sight words with your child at home.
In Reader's Workshop, we continue to explore our fourth unit, Becoming Avid Readers. This week, we continued our All About Books bend. Our focus this week was reading playdates and building reading stamina. We are up to 17 minutes of private reading!
During Read Aloud this week we continued our themed story sets. This week's theme was Exploring Animal Tales. Some stories we read this week were The Little Red Hen, The Three Bears, The Three Pigs and The Three Billy Goats. We shared similarities and differences in all of our texts.
During Daily Five word work stations this week, we played Sort It, Color, It, Roll and Read It, and Spin It with our snap words. We continue to explore phonics skills using our Word Sorts. Please ask your child to share with you their word pattern. We also practiced our phonemic awareness skills using Lexia on the iPad. We practiced labeling and creating lists at the writing table. We also read leveled texts in our guided reading groups. Please ask your child what was their favorite Daily Five station this week.
In Whole Group Math, we continued the fifth unit in our Eureka Math curriculum. This unit is all about teen numbers. Our focus this week is representing teen numbers using Say Ten language, rekenreks, number bonds, ten frames, and equations. Please ask your child to share with you the different ways to show numbers 11-19.
This week during Math Tubs, we began a new round of tubs. Our rotation will focus on number writing, teen numbers, one-to-one correspondence, number pairs to 10, and basic addition and subtraction. Please ask your child what their favorite math tub was this week.
During Science, we continued our animal research project. We used our STEM tubs to create our animal and its habitat. Take a peek at our kindergarten scientists using materials to build replicas of their animal of choice. Please continue to read about and complete the animal research book by L Day.
