Thank you to all who donated and visited our Kindergarten Picnic and Play. Take a peek at our kindergartners celebrating the end of the school year.
During our Shared Reading, we focused on the poem, Summer Vacation, to explore letters, sounds, rhyming words, and print concepts. We added one new word to our snap word wall. Our new snap word is here. Please practice identifying, reading, and writing our sight words with your child at home.
In Reader's Workshop, we continue to explore our fourth unit, Becoming Avid Readers. This week, we reviewed avid nonfiction reading. We learned that nonfiction readers can compare and contrast two books on the same topic. Please ask your child to name the similarities and differences between honeybees and dragonflies. We also practice private stamina reading and partner share. Take a peek at our avid readers!
During Read Aloud this week we continued our themed story sets. This week's theme was Celebrating Differences. Some stories we read this week were The Story of Ferdinand, Leo the Late Bloomer, and Big Al. We identified characters, setting, and main event; as well as, shared similarities and differences in all of our texts.
During Daily Five word work stations this week, we played Sort It, Color, It, Roll and Read It, and Spin It with our snap words. We also practiced our phonemic awareness skills using Lexia on the iPad. We practiced labeling and creating lists at the writing table. We also read leveled texts in our guided reading groups. Please ask your child what was their favorite Daily Five station this week.
In Whole Group Math, we began the sixth unit in our Eureka Math curriculum. This unit was all about analyzing, composing, and comparing shapes. Our focus this week was composing 3D shapes. Please ask your child to create solid shapes with materials at home.
This week during Math Tubs, we began our final round of tubs. Our rotation focused on number writing, shape composition, skip counting, teen numbers, one-to-one correspondence, number pairs to 10, and basic addition and subtraction. Please ask your child what their favorite math tub was this week.
