Mrs. Grogan's Kindergarten: Week 35 Highlights!

What a fun-filled week!

The ABC Countdown is in full swing! Take a peek at our kindergartners celebrating learning about animals and math days.

On Friday, we attended our Young Athletes field trip to OPRFHS. Take a peek at our kindergarten athletes.

During our Shared Reading, we focused on the poem, Field Trip, to explore letters, sounds, rhyming words, and print concepts. We reviewed our kindergarten word wall words this week, because our poem was filled with 19 snap words! Please practice identifying, reading, and writing our sight words with your child at home.

In Reader's Workshop, we continue to explore our fourth unit, Becoming Avid Readers. This week, we began our poetry bend. Our focus this week was becoming avid poetry readers. We can read the poem, think about the poem, match the beat, and act it out. Take a peek at our poetry readers!

During Read Aloud this week we continued our themed story sets. This week's theme was Sharing Stories and Songs: Nursery Rhymes. Some stories we read this week were The Eensy-Weensy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep, I'm a Little Teapot, and It's Raining, It's Pouring. We shared similarities and differences in all of our texts.

During Daily Five word work stations this week, we played Sort It, Color, It, Roll and Read It, and Spin It with our snap words. We also practiced our phonemic awareness skills using Lexia on the iPad. We practiced labeling and creating lists at the writing table. We also read leveled texts in our guided reading groups. Please ask your child what was their favorite Daily Five station this week.

This week during Writer's Workshop, we completed our all about animal books! We shared our all about and research books with our writing partners and classmates this week. Look for our kindergarten writing collection in the next week.

In Whole Group Math, we completed the fifth unit in our Eureka Math curriculum. This unit was all about teen numbers. Our focus this week is representing teen numbers using Say Ten language, rekenreks, number bonds, ten frames, and equations. Please ask your child to share with you the different ways to show numbers 11-19.

This week during Math Tubs, we continued our new round of tubs. Our rotation will focus on number writing, teen numbers, one-to-one correspondence, number pairs to 10, and basic addition and subtraction. Please ask your child what their favorite math tub was this week.
