What an exciting week! We celebrated the 100th day of kindergarten with our Hearts and Hundreds Party. Take a peek at our kiddos counting to 100 to create a tasty snack, build with cups, roll to 100, stamp hearts, dot crowns, take a hike around Irving School, and go on a scavenger hunt in our classroom. Thank you to all the parents who sent in snack donations and volunteered the day of. The celebration was a success because each of you!
Our stories of the week were Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog both by Mo Willems. Using both books we made connections to the characters, discussed character traits, identified problems and solutions, and composed opinion pieces. I was so impressed by our kiddos opinion writing. Please ask your child to share with you their favorite Pigeon book and explain why it is their favorite using details from the text.
We added one new word to the word wall this week. Our new word wall word is little. Please continue to practice identifying, reading, and writing our kindergarten sight words at home.
We continue to develop our early reading and writing skills during Daily Five. Take a peek at our kindergartners hard at work during our literacy stations.
During whole group math, we reviewed counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s. We also played Match Me Minus 1. During math stations, we practice addition to ten, reviewed non-standard measurement, and played I-Spy, Bump and Top It. Take a peek at our kindergartners during math stations.
We completed two science experiments this week! During our first experiment, we discovered which solids dissolve in water. In our second experiment, we determined what objects sink and float when placed in water. We made predictions, conducted the experiment, and recorded our results. Take a peek at our kindergarten scientists.
