We began our first author study this week. We are reading books by the hilarious author-illustrator, Mo Willems. Our story of the week was Leonardo the Terrible Monster. Our comprehension skills were retell, making connections, and using evidence in the text to determine the author's purpose. We also introduced opinion writing. The kiddos wrote about their favorite part of the book and why. Please ask your child to share with you their favorite part of our story of the week.
We added one new word to the word wall this week. Our new word wall word is what. Please continue to practice reading, writing, and identifying word wall words with your child at home.
Take a peek at our kiddos hard at work during our Daily Five reading and writing stations.
In writing, we continue to develop writing stamina. Our kiddos are becoming more determined to create their own books by expanding their stories across multiple pages. We even had a few books "published" this week! We continue to practice how to writing creating recipe cards for Cooking Friday. Take a peek at our kiddos creating our valentines parfait and practicing our how to writing during Cooking Friday.
During whole group math this week, we introduced subtraction and the game Match Me Minus One. In our calendar books, we are focusing on basic addition and subtraction, numbers before and after, and odd and even numbers. Take a peek at our kindergarten mathematicians.
Thank you to our classroom volunteers this week: Ms. Daniel, Ms. Trudell, and Laylah's Mammaw.
