What a short and sweet week!
We completed our Mo Willems author study this week. Our story of the week was Edwina: The Dinosaur That Didn't Know She Was Extinct. Our comprehension focus was retelling the story. We completed our final RL.K.2 summative. Please ask your child to retell the beginning, middle, and end of Edwina. A highlight of our week was baking our own chocolate chip cookies, Edwina's specialty, during Cooking Friday. Thank you Stacey for helping our kindergarten chef create such tasty treats.
To wrap up our author study, we shared our favorite Mo Willems book with our classmates and composed an opinion piece describing why it is our favorite. Please ask your child to share with you their favorite Mo Willems book from our author study. If you would like to take our study home, please take a peek at Mo Willems's website for activities and fun with our favorite characters.
We added one new word to the word wall this week. Our new word wall word is it. Please continue to help your child identify, read, and write our word wall words at home.
During whole group math, we introduced number story books. Each week we will complete two to three number stories. We use drawings, ten frames, and math talk to solve basic addition and subtraction equations. During stations, we introduced building a hexagon. Using multiple pattern block shapes, the kiddos created different ways to make a hexagon. We also reviewed teens on the ten frame, dice addition, race to 100, and counting by 10s. Please ask your child what their favorite math station was this week.
